*EDIT* NO LONGER VEGAN THIS POST IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION (essentially still poisoned by fat but meat isn’t the culprit it’s the xenoestrogens, refined starchy hybrid vegetables, and processed animal foods (rich in nitrates, heterocyclic amines, and other AAA breakdown-byproduct free-radicals.))
Statistically, If you have four friends one of them is either pre-diabetic or has diabetes. The odds that this friend is unaware of their condition is even higher, as most people don’t find out they are pre-diabetic until they experience symptoms of the fully developed disease.
What is diabetes? In short, it’s being poisoned by fat. Essentially, a healthy system produces enough insulin (a hormone that regulates how glucose is stored and used for energy) to deal with rising blood sugar after a meal. Unlike type 1 diabetics which can’t produce enough insulin, people with type 2 diabetes (Around 95% of diabetics) are unable to properly use insulin. This state of insulin resistance begins years before diabetes can even be diagnosed. Genetic factors play a role, but DIET will ultimately determine wether or not these factors arise.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the united states, and diabetes is one of its leading precursors. Insulin resistance induces a positive feedback loop of inflammation and damage to our pancreas, accumulating fatty tissue in the liver, high blood pressure and an array of other complications.
Our souls are pure divine light, shining brightest only when treated with virtue.
So what foods CAUSE diabetes? What foods PREVENT and REVERSE diabetes?
The misconception that carbohydrates cause diabetes is due to their potential to rise blood glucose. The reason this is such a widespread myth is because the standard American diet includes REFINED carbs eaten WITH excessive amounts of animal-based protein and fat, wrongfully leaving the carbs to blame.
Glucose is sugar, and high refined sugar intake is assured to momentarily rise blood glucose. Although whole grain carbs or carby vegetables like potatoes provide sugar, they also contain significant amounts of fiber to process that sugar. That fiber is also accompanied by blood sugar lowering phytonutrients. Even refined carbs (white bread, white rice, etc.) can be burned off as heat, and although they aren’t healthy for various other reasons they only become a serious concern when eaten with meat, which significantly exacerbates the otherwise manageable insulin spike from the carbohydrate. Additionally, on their own unrefined carbs like whole grain bread and pasta or brown rice are INVERSELY related to diabetes.
Meat, dairy, and eggs have a remarkable potential to rise blood sugar and create dangerous liver fatty tissue (a culprit of type 2 diabetes). Animal products are high in saturated fat and cholesterol, thus can raise blood sugar and triglycerides even when eaten without carbs. Eggs for example, are high in LDL cholesterol, saturated fat, and glycotoxins (A risk factor for diabetes abundant in cooked animal foods.) Studies show that as little as one egg a week increases the odds of diabetes by 97%, and just five eggs a week triples those odds. Animal protein is often also high in trans fats, Heme-iron (a pro-oxidant), sodium (raises blood pressure), nitrosamines (cause cancer and insulin resistance) and leucine, an amino acid that (in excess) can “burn out” the insulin producing cells in the pancreas.
There is a universe of reasons animal foods cause diabetes, but I should mention why fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds can prevent and cure just about any western disease, including diabetes.
Unlike one rich in animal foods, a plant-based diet is rich in anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant compounds, vitamins, minerals, fiber, healthy fats, and a balanced amount of amino acids. All of these plant nutrients lower blood pressure, burn excess fat, improve vitality, cognition, immunity, digestion, and support the building of healthy new cells while killing of dangerous ones.
